Richard Branson’s bold and engaging approach to life usually transforms everything that he touches. This is the case with his hospitality section in the Virgin Limited Edition, where he bought the historic winelands hotel Mont Rochelle a few years ago. After extensive redesign and the recent re – launch of the exclusive new manor house, our CEO Richard Holt went to cast his discerning eye over the very chic transformations. To summarise the site inspection – he was both surprised and impressed, in fact – he loved it!
Says Richard, “In true Branson style Mont Rochelle truly has been transformed. From its scenic and lofty position at the head of the Franschhoek valley it now boasts an extremely stylish and colourful makeover. Contemporary modern design, splashes of colour and quirky art pieces set the tone – tasteful, understated and unpretentious.”
All 26 rooms and suites are stylish, vivid, spacious and inviting! Richard’s favourite being the six ‘Cabernet rooms’ with their private terraces overlooking the picturesque valley. The Miko ‘signature restaurant’ is equally light, open and colourful offering internationally influenced fine-dining with a casual and relaxed approach. A country-chic eatery with an extended terrace has been added to the revamped wine tasting area and even the Mont Rochelle wine labels have been given a modern makeover!
However, The ‘piece de resistance’ for Richard was the fabulous new private manor house. A short walk from the main property, it’s secluded and designed for families or small groups, with four stunning suites, bunk rooms for children, private designer kitchen, pool and gym – all the exclusive touches available. It’s beautiful, luxurious and simply perfect for an intimate getaway or special celebration in South Africa with a ‘home away from home’ feel.”
“Visually the new Mont Rochelle is fantastic, but what really works for me is how the design combined with ambiance created by the staff bring to life an exclusive yet peaceful and relaxing environment. From my personal welcome, the team were excellent; friendly, confident, engaging and quietly efficient.”
“As I sat in the lounge engaged in interesting conversation with the barista expertly making my cappuccino, I realised I felt at ease and immersed in the surroundings. I left Mont Rochelle with a smile on my face and affirmed that this historic Franschhoek boutique hotel has re – joined the Cape Winelands elite!”
