The beauty of whale watching along South Africa’s Southern coastline in our view is one of the countries true highlights and recently we treated one of our top industry colleagues to an exclusive stay at the gorgeous Marine Hotel in Hermanus – the town most synonymous with whale watching in South Africa. Travis and Maike, husband and wife and also owners of acclaimed Cape Town photography business welovepictures, were judged the winners of our sister company, Wedding Concepts’ prestigious annual “Top 10 Wedding Images” award with the prize being a pampered stay at one of our favourite hotels and jewel in the portfolio of the Liz McGrath Collection. Also known as one of the most romantic spots in the South Africa, these two lovebirds decided to celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary at The Marine and in true 5 star style.

Spectacularly situated on the cliff tops overlooking the sea, this most  iconic of hotels has had a beautiful facelift since its acquisition by the Liz McGrath collection and is a real five star experience, bearing all the hallmarks of the collection- stylish design and understated luxury, fine food and excellent caring staff. If that isn’t enough we can’t think of many other hotels in the world where you can sit on your balcony, sipping champagne, whilst whales and their calves frolic in the sea just metres away.  Just a 90 minute drive from Cape Town we think it’s a must stay experience during the whale season or any other time come to think of it.

Travis and Maike obviously thought so too and of course being photographers of note we asked them to capture some images of their experience, we hope you enjoy.
